Dos Gatos Kolache Bakery Review: The San Marcos Food Blog

Today, The San Marcos Food Blog will be reviewing a real treasure in the heart of the Texas State campus. I am referring of course to Dos Gatos Kolache Bakery. If you are like myself and many other Texans, you have stopped at the Czech Bakery in West Texas along Interstate 35 and have grown very fond of Kolaches, both sweet and savory.

I remember countless trips across Texas in which this was always a definite pit-stop on the way and the way back.

Luckily, San Marcos has a Kolache Bakery of its own and one that is serving up some really delicious and authentic Kolaches in many variations. Honestly, I love these.

Delicious Kolache Bread with Fruit and Cream Cheese or Sausage and Cheese could make even the earliest mornings better.24563_333614226794_1339851_n

Everyone I talk to about Dos Gatos Kolache Bakery has nothing but great things to say about them: Their service, their friendliness, and of course their excellent Kolaches.

It seems like every other day they are concocting new and interesting flavors and fillings for their Kolaches

Dos Gatos is a regular stop for many San Marcos residents as well as a whole host of Texas State University students each day.

They are constantly serving different assortments of both sweet and savory Kolaches and really have something for everyone.

This is what one person had to say about their Philly Cheese-Steak Kolache:

“…Seriously, When I moved to Texas from Philly everyone was talking about Kolaches. I wasn’t too happy w/ my choices in Houston until I ran into you guys to SXSW. You have changed my view lol. And philly cheese steak kolaches, gotta say hands down awesome. Pretty legit breakfast of what philly cheesesteak would be like. you would def find a version of this in Philly…”

Clearly, they put care into each recipe because not one is lackluster.

The Fruit filling is always fresh and tasty and the savory Kolaches are seasoned so well. Also, the Fruit mixed with Cream Cheese Kolaches are insanely good.DSC03268

There are other places around that offer Kolaches such as some of the doughnut places and the like but I must offer that they cannot match the flavor, quality, creativity, and consistency of the pastry chefs at Dos Gatos Kolache Bakery

Dos Gatos Kolache Bakery is located at 700 N LBJ Dr and their hours of operation are Mon – Fri: 6:30 am – 2:00 pm and Sat – Sun: 7:30 am – 2:00 pm
and they are always updating their Facebook with new Kolaches so go “Like” their page and follow them there: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dos-Gatos-Kolache-Bakery/318866336794

Upon entering Dos Gatos, it is always difficult to choose exactly what you want. And I don’t know about others, but I always end up getting more than I had anticipated.

This is due to the reality of always seeing several Kolaches that I either haven’t tried yet or have and really want to try once again.

I have had quite a bit of both the savory and the sweet.. However, I must admit that I do not have as many pictures as I rightly should as I, at times, ate them before considering to photograph them. I guess I will attribute this to how much I love food hehe and how good these Kolaches are.
