Rhea’s Ice Cream Review: The San Marcos Food Blog

Recently, I began my official review of Rhea’s Ice Cream located downtown on the San Marcos Square. At Rhea’s, I really enjoy the effort put forth with regard to ice cream quality and unique flavor combinations.

I honestly feel that is what makes Rhea’s worth stopping by regularly.. every month there are new and delicious flavors of homemade ice cream that one simply cannot find elsewhere.

Who does not love ice cream? Especially from a locally-owned and operated ice cream parlor.. but I am sure many are like myself and are sometimes tired of the usual flavors.. they’re great and are classics for a reason but its nice to try something that sort of wakes up your palette every now and then. This is why I am writing about Rhea’s Ice Cream.

I have heard from so many people that I must try this place due to their original flavors such as “Coconut Avocado”, “Cheetos”, “Maple Bacon,  and “Goat Cheese and Raspberry Jam” just to name a few..

these flavors denote the sort of special approach to creating new ice cream flavors here. You are not going to find your ordinary and frankly sometimes dull flavors here. Every time I have come by, I have always been surprised by the selection and often find myself leaving with at least 3 pints of 3 flavors(at least).

Rhea’s Ice Cream is located on the San Marcos Square, this location is a bit small but really a cool hangout spot and the atmosphere is definitely inviting and comfortable.

If you are on Texas State campus or swimming at the river, it is quite a short walk to cool off with some great local ice cream

They offer homemade Waffle Cones or cups and also offer pints of ice cream.

I cannot emphasize enough how great this place is especially if you have a unique taste and I highly suggest you try some if you have not.

Rhea’s Ice Cream is locally owned and operated by an alumni of Texas State University. Please go and support her business! Rhea’s Ice Cream is located @ 318 N. LBJ on the San Marcos Square

the Birthday Cake Ice Cream is one of my favorites. Honestly, I would take this over some cake.. this ice cream was so good, not overly sweet, and teeming with the nuanced flavors of what one has come to expect from the flavor profile of classic confetti birthday cake..

I am always looking for food spots that stand out and Rhea’s Ice Cream definitely qualifies.

On one of my stops, I tried the Circus Animal Cookie, the S’mores, the Goat Cheese and Raspberry Jam(my favorite of the bunch), the Maple Bacon, the Caramel Sea Salt, and the Oatmeal Cream Pie.. wow what a selection.. each was unique and tasty in its own way..
